Miller Dowel Joinery Kit

Wood Magazine voted Miller Dowel as one of the hottest new tools from the 2002 Show Circuit! This innovative peg construction method offers distinct advantages over traditional dowel construction.

To use Miller Dowels effectively, first select the appropriate size dowel and drill bit for your project. Align and secure the wood pieces to be joined, and drill a stepped pilot hole for the dowel. Apply a small amount of glue to the ribbed sections of the dowel, then insert it into the hole. The dowel will self-center and align with the second board, even without preglued or clamped components. Tap the dowel until fully inserted, then trim or sand any raised portions.

The starter kit includes a stepped drill bit and 50 birch dowels. The dowels are 2-5/8” long and 3/8” in diameter, designed for stock up to 1” thick. Miller Dowels utilize a patented design that facilitates better, stronger joints with minimal effort and setup. The ribbed dowel reduces excess glue squeeze-out, creating a more secure bond.

Miller Dowels are an excellent alternative to other joint methods such as mortise and tenon, loose tenon, traditional dowel joints, or biscuit joints. They require less setup time and specialized machinery, making them a convenient choice for woodworking projects.
